Organization:

To better manage the BG Consortium communications and interactions, the following Organizational structure will be deployed for the Consortium Members.

  • Director: responsible for overall strategy, direction and communication for the consortium.

  • Associate Director: Responsible for day to day consortium activities, meetings and communications to members.

  • Science Advisory Board: The SAB will report directly to the Consortium Director and provide advice and council on how Blue Gene will benefit the HPC community as a whole and the appropriateness of Blue Gene as a  Petaflop computing paradigm.

  • Executive Committee: The EC will be responsible for providing the consortium Director, strategy, direction and issues which the consortium will focus.

  • Technical Committee: The TC will be responsible for reporting to the EC, progress On the working groups and suggestions and ideas which will be brought forward to IBM For BG improvements and changes.


     The following working groups will be deployed to assist in the deployment of the BG systems across the consortium and among its members. Each working group will have a lead PI and the team members from consortium:

    • Applications : provide guidance for porting and optimizing target codes - coding strategies, performance tools, debugging tools, use of compiler

    • System SW : Provide guidance for the system model as seen by users:  the MPI Library, I/O model, file systems, job submission and monitoring, and tools for debugging and tuning.  In addition, provide guidance for the system administration model to be deployed – configuration, system management, trouble shooting and provide SW support for entry level systems deployed.

    • Architecture: Explore the relationships between hardware, software, and applications functionality and opportunities for architectural enhancements in future systems.

    • Outreach : Provide communication and training for BG users and consortium members.
